"Golden Spiral" is a singular and thought provoking painting composed of squares and golden rectangles based on the Fibonacci sequence of numbers. From the spiraling of sub-atomic particles to the wheeling of great galaxies the artist here mysteriously ties together the harmonies of nature in one image. Joining his fascination of science and mathematics with art Greg Mort awakens within the viewer the realization that we are surrounded with this wonder of nature often translated into or from the language of science.
Mort, a master of the beauty of simplistic design, has given this image great strength with the rough texture of the stone and the three dimensional expression of the central area. No actual props were used to formulate this painting. Rather the artists began with a silvery, highly detailed graphite drawing and translated that into a watercolor painting.
The original watercolor painting of "Golden Spiral" is in a private art collection in Washington, DC. The over all image size of the limited edition four color lithograph of "Golden Spiral" is 24" X 23". It was printed on museum quality Mohawk Superfine eighty pound paper by the fine artisans of Westland Printers in Burtonsville, Maryland. Each piece is individually hand titled, numbered and signed by the artist. "Golden Spiral" was published in a limited edition of only five hundred.
